Kenzo

The label's success is one-of-a-kind, not unlike its designer. Kenzo style is the culmination of its exotic influences, mix of cultures and combination of colours. It marries the modern with the romantic while allowing Western art to permeate its Eastern origins.

The story

The label's founder, Kenzo Takada, was born on 27 February 1939 in Himeji, Japan. His love of fashion began at a very early age and, in 1964, he decided to move to Paris. In 1970, he launched his first boutique, Jungle Jap, with its jungle-inspired decor. Still in its infancy, the fashion house took up residence at Place des Victoires six years later and, in 1980, became Kenzo. The label expanded its range to include menswear lines, a kid's collection, homeware products and fragrances.

The end of the 1990s was marked by a retrospective show celebrating 30 years of the fashion house and the departure of its designer-founder Kenzo Takada. Bought by LVMH in 1993, Kenzo began a new chapter in its history while remaining true to the values upon which it was founded a little over 40 years ago. Since July 2011, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have been the creative directors at Kenzo.

Kenzotoday

Kenzo is continuing to produce fashion with a complete menswear and womenswear collection as well as Kenzo Kids, its childrenswear range.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Kenzo published a magnificent book paying tribute to these designs. And so a distinctive style was born, which is today preserved and exemplified in each new Kenzo collection.
